the Bibles

anthologies of various canonical books held with great religious, cultural, and literary importance in Western culture and religions such as Judaism and Christianities, both ancient and modern. subject to devotion and various modes of interaction, such as study, bibliomancy, exegesis, bible journaling, etc.

why the Bibles?

in Jewish circles, it usually contains the Hebrew Bible, while in Catholic parlance, it usually contains the Old Testament, which is synonymous with the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and the Deuterocanonical works. the Protestant bible omits the Deuterocanonical works.

because there is no one Bible. There is no the Bible either, only "a Bible" or "Bibles". the biblical Canon differs by each religious group. manuscript traditions vary, translations vary. i believe that calling it/them "the Bible" is only useful within a religious group; outside devotional contexts, one must strive to see the whole of the Bibles, particularly in intellectual pursuits.
