░░ I. DIGITAL CANDLE LIGHTING ░░

In place of the traditional candle blessing, this intention:

Take a moment. You have no physical candles — that is fine. Shabbat is made in time, not in objects. The light you kindle is the light you bring.

Optional: recite or sit with this kavvanah (intention):

I am setting this time apart.
What was will wait.
What must be done will wait.
For now: rest. Study. Prayer. The week is behind me.

░░ II. QABALAT SHABAT ░░

The six psalms (95–99, 29) welcome Shabbat. Below are key verses — read as much or as little as energy allows. [Full text in siddur →|Full text in siddur →]

ANA BƏKHÓ'AḤ

Short kabbalistic poem, sometimes sung.

LECHA DODI

The heart of Kabbalat Shabbat. A poem by Shlomo HaLevi Alkabetz (Safed/Tzfat, 16th c.).
Each verse begins with a letter of the author's name: שלמה הלוי
For the final verse, it is traditional to turn and face the door (or, for you: the room, the world) and bow.

Refrain (sung after each verse):

Lecha dodi liqrat kallah / pnei Shabbat nəqabelah
Come, my beloved, to meet the bride / let us welcome the face of Shabbat

Verse 1 (שׁ):

Shamor vəzakhor bədibur echad / hishmi'anu El hameyuchad
Adonai echad ushmo echad / ləshem ulətif'eret vəlitehillah

"Guard" and "Remember" — spoken as one / the Unique One proclaimed to us
The One is One and Its Name is One / for glory, splendor, and praise

Liqrat Shabbat lchu vənelcha / ki hi məqor habracha
Merosh mikedem nəsuchah / sof ma'aseh bəmachshavah techilah

Come, let us go to meet Shabbat / for she is the source of blessing
Poured out from the beginning / last in deed, first in thought

Verse 3 (מ):

Miqrat melech ir məlucha / qumi tze'i mitoch hahafecha
Rav lach shevet bə'emeq habacha / vəhu yachamol alaich chemlah

Royal sanctuary, city of the Holy / arise, go forth from the midst of ruin
You have dwelt too long in the valley of tears / as One shows you compassion

Verse 6 (ו):

Lo tevoshi vəlo tikalmi / mah tishtochachi umah tehemi
Bach yechesu aniyei ami / vənivnətah ir al tilah

You will not be shamed, nor disgraced / why do you sink down, why do you moan?
In you the poor of my people take shelter / the city shall be rebuilt on its hill

Vəhayu limsisah sho'asaich / vərachaqu kol məval'aich
Yasis alaich Elohayich / kimsos chatan al kalah

Your despoilers will be despoiled / all who devoured you will be far removed

To the right and left you shall spread out / and the One you shall revere

Verse 9 (ה) — Final verse:
Turn toward the entrance of your space. Bow slightly.

Tokh emunei am səgulah / bo'i chalah, bo'i chalah

Come in peace, crown of her beloved / with joy and jubilation

Half-Kaddish. A doxology in Aramaic. No response needed when praying alone.

Yitgadal vəyitqadash shəmeh raba
May the great Name be magnified and sanctified

In the world that was created according to Its will

Vəyamlikh malkhuteh / bəchayeikhon uvəyomeikhon
May Its sovereignty be established / in your lives and in your days
